Leopoldskron Palace, the lakeside façade represented the von Trapp residence in the Sound of Music
Leopoldskron Palace, near Salzburg, Austria was used in the Sound of Music to represent the lakeside façade of the van Trapp residence. The real Von Trapp family house was not used in the film. Nearby Frohnburg Palace was used for the courtyard and front backdrop. Neither was used for interior shots, all of which were filmed on a soundstage in Hollywood.
Lovely shot!

So still and elegant, perfectly reflected in autumn colours. Thank you for the entry, Marie.

Thanks. We went on the Sound of Music Tour, which is a bit of a tourist trap, but we had a great guide who explained a lot of the realities about the von Trapp family, rather than just repeating the myths of the movie. In the end, it was a pleasant day.
