Playing With Photoshop Camera

Fun With Photoshop Camera

Yesterday I downloaded the new Adobe Photoshop Camera app for smartphones. It works on iPhones and some newer Android phones. The app is free. Based on reviews, it seems intended more for use with Instagram and its obsession with selfies. Having used it just a bit, I would agree, though I haven’t used it enough to take unfiltered images to compare them to my Samsung S9+’s regular camera. Photoshop Camera uses AI to perform automatic adjustments to the original photos. It has a range of filters/lenses for special effects that can be selected either when you take a picture or applied to images in your camera roll/gallery. Saving images to your camera roll/gallery is a bit confusing at first. The app is a battery hog so be sure not to let it run in the background.

The four photos above were taken within 30 minutes of each other in the late afternoon in southern California. The top photo of Cleo the Cat was taken without a filter. Any adjustments were made by the app. I could see the adjustments happen but don’t know what they were. The picture of Tortuga the Tortoise was taken with my Samsung photo app and I then applied a Photoshop Camera filter. For the two bottom photos, I selected the filters before I took the shot.

Of the Beaten Path: The Bowers Museum, Santa Ana, California

If you are in Santa Ana, the Bowers Museum is well worth a visit. It’s original collection from the early 20th century focused on the early history of Southern California. Additional space has allowed for a broader scope.

The Gemstone Carvings: The Masterworks of Harold van Pelt exhibit was fascinating. Twenty carved gemstones spill out of a carved faceted quartz egg.

Izok is a hollow, life-sized human skull. The original quartz crystal weighed 250 pounds. The finished piece, which is in two parts with a hinged jaw, weighs 6.5 pounds.

Amethyst cup with 24 flutes.

Van Pelt and his wife are also well known mineral photographers.

CFFC: Letter F – Fun or Flowers

Fun With Flowers

Pink Poppy

I recently purchased Topaz Studio (by Topaz Labs) and several of the preset collections. I have been having fun with the conceptual presets on some flower pictures I took this summer. I love the effects created.
