Color Your World 2018: 120 Days of Crayola – Outrageous Orange

Cog Railway to the Sky

Take the Gornergrat Bahn, Europe’s highest open-air cog railway, from Zermatt station to the summit of the Gornergrat. The 33 minute ride to the top offers stunning panoramas of the Alps and the valley below, with skiers racing by on the slopes. The railway operates 365 days a year. Surprisingly, there is a hotel at the top (10,285 ft).

Zermatt is surrounded by some of the highest and most beautiful mountains in Europe. Weisshorn, or White Peak, at 14,783 ft tall (4505 metres) is the ninth-tallest peak over 4000m in the Alps.  It is slightly taller than the Matterhorn. It was first scaled in 1861. The photo, looking northwest. was taken from the cog-wheel train as it descended to Zermatt from Gornergrat.
