Waiting for Water, Budapest, Hungary
The Danubius fountain, dating from 1880, was Budapest’s first water fountain. Originally located in Kálvin square, the fountain was heavily damaged during WWII. In 1959, following restoration, it was moved to Erzsébet square. The figure on the left, which represents one of the four major rivers in Hungary, is missing one of her feet. Based on recent photos of the fountain I found on the Internet, this loss seems recent, possibly a break at on old repair. When I visited Budapest in April 2016, water was not flowing and it did not appear to have been for some time.
