The Unexpected

MonkCL

Buddhist monk on base of the Ruwanwelisaya dagoba (stupa) at the holy city of Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka.

What inspires me? New experiences that are beyond my expectations. A flash of color, a splash of sound, a beating drum, my mind unbound.

The banners circling the base of the Ruwanwelisaya dagoba (stupa) at Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka, are not part of the structure. They represent the colors of the Buddhist flag and are temporary offerings from individuals and/or communities. The juxtaposition of the monk’s orange robes and multi-colored banners, enhanced by the setting sun, bring a sense of movement and vitality to the normally white surface of the dagoba.

I love the way reducing clarity in Camera Raw makes edges go soft and smooth.
