Al Timon, Cannaregio, Venice, Italy
If you get tired of seafood the next time you visit Venice, Italy, head to Al Timon, an osteria and wine bar in the Cannaregio neighborhood (Fondamenta Ormesini, 2754, 30121 Venezia, Italy). Why? Because it serves only meat, not a fish or sea creature in sight. Meat and more meat. Note to readers who are sensitive, horse is on the menu. Most travel site descriptions I read mention only the wine and cicchetti (Italian tapas). Could that be because they didn’t do more than walk by or have a quick drink? Al Timo is definitely a busy place—full of locals and open past midnight. Some reviewers complain about having to wait for a table. But it is a dining experience if you like red meat. When I was there last April, a celebratory group of locals was served meat on a long plank, with the potatoes, veggies and bread on platters. The instructor of my photography class treated us to dinner at Al Timon. Five of us ordered two cuts of beef and one of lamb. The food was served family style on round wooden boards and was more than generous. Al Timon has a very basic web page.

Outside seating at a restaurant on Burano, an island near Venice, Italy. I assume it served seafood because the facade was covered with depictions of fish and marine life.
